Quilt construction instructions

Stripe_quilt_top
I have given up on creating a physical instruction book to go with the Zip Quilt Kits. I tried. It sucked. I'm moving on.

I really like the Instructables format so I thought I'd use that online forum to create the tutorial. My focus was not on how to sew but instead how to actually put a quilt together. The process for assembling the pieces.  This stuff is intuitive to some people (but having taught sewing classes I can tell you, not intuitive for everyone). I hope the Instructable is clear and easy to follow. It can be found here.

The quilt pictured above is one of the variations that can be created with the Zip Quilt Kit. It's been fun messing around with the kits and trying different variations starting with the same 20 squares.  I see more doll quilts in my future...

Handmade Parade goodies

Parade_goodies

My mom and I went to Handmade Parade on Saturday featuring many Sacramento Craft Mafia members. I was really impressed with the talent and beautiful items for sale.  Since I lost my debit card last week and was out of cash, I had to borrow money from my mom so my purchasing was (a little) restrained by that.

The photo above shows what I got (for only $30 total!!): hand quilted potholders by Laughing Duck. Her handwork is incredible. The tissue holder and memo book holder are from P Dot. I'm having buyer's regret but from what I didn't buy, not what I did! Lucky she has and Etsy store.  The fabulous bird patch is from Mukibubb. Her patches are amazing (my photography is not). I'm going to put this on a jumper-style dress for Biscuit.  The yo-yo hair clip is from Bitter Betty and my mom was right, Biscuit won't wear it.

I'm already looking forward to Handmade Parade in the fall!

Casty McCastypants can walk!

Thank you all for your nice comments about the fact that I have probably broken my baby's ankle. I'm expecting my parent of the year trophy to arrive any day.

You may think that my total lack of email responding and blogging was due to my 24-7 care of the injured child. You would be wrong. The truth is that my sister (who is back from her 5 month trip to Asia) is between jobs and came over to watch Biscuit to keep her out of daycare.  The instant Biscuit was in bed each night, Laura and I sat down and watched Tivo'ed episodes of Project Runway Season 1. I'm embarrassed to say that we got through the ENTIRE season in two nights.  That's commitment! No time for blogging, must find out who makes the best wedding dress!

So the Zip Quilt Kits are 3 days behind but should go out to testers tomorrow and may be ready for the Maker Faire in a few weeks.

Biscuit has been no slacker either. Yesterday she could only slither (backward) around the kitchen floor in a a very pathetic way.

Today, she got up and walked! Seriously! I can't believe this.  If you saw her yesterday you NEVER would have believed she could walk on this cast. It weighs a ton and supposedly her knee is bent so she can't walk.  Never underestimate the adaptability of a toddler. (Yes, in this video I do call my daughter "peg leg" but it's totally a term of endearment and a nice change from "stumpy" No, I don't know if Mr. H found the socks he was looking for)
