Ok, but do you love your toothpick holder?

Growing up we always had a mini Hofbrau House toothpick stein in the cupboard. Ironic since my parents don't really drink beer nor had they been to Germany. I really have no idea where it came from but it was a cupboard fixture. At some point after college I decided I wanted to steal the toothpick holder for my house and discovered, tragically, that my mom had gotten rid of it. Gotten rid of a childhood memory! (sidebar: When I was 4ish she threw away the (grungy) ducky I slept with every night and gave me a new one to replace it. Other than that she was, and continues to be, an excellent mother).
So in 2002 when I was visiting my cousin in Germany I made her take me on a day trip, ostensibly to see the sights of Munich. But, really, to buy this replacement toothpick holder. It's a cupboard fixture.
Claire's blog alerted me to a "macro bandwagon" running around the internet. Perfect bandwagon for his post. Hooray for the macro setting--even in low light!

um, no. Can't say that i do! :) but i do love my ceramic yogurt cup which looks similar. :)

I'm happy that the mini-beer-stein-toothpick holder circle of life is complete! Funny what we get attached to. Like a hundred tiny anchors tying us to our memories. Ooh. Deep.

I hate to admit that I "lost" your blog after it moved, but am so glad I found it once again (thanks to half oz) - and on a day with a post which mentions me. What are the chances? I had almost forgotten about the hunt for the HB toothpick holder...so glad it holds a place of prominence in your home :)
