I very nearly wrote this blog post about my oven. But I decided that would be too boring even given the every day posting around here.
So instead, how 'bout some before and after action?
Chicken coop at 11 am with Biscuit decked out in one of my old shirts as a paint coverall.
work in progress (She was a surprisingly good painter)
And there it is with a first coat of a really odd paint color. I got a $5 oops can of paint (determined not to sink any more money into a chicken coop!). Not sure about the color...
I still need to paint the trim and then maybe the birds will be so pleased they'll lay us an egg already. Freeloaders.
Have I mentioned one has turned out to be a rooster? Of course it's my favorite. The debates about what to do are ongoing.

Ah, paint. We did a project recently and instead of trying to pick out new colors, I just went shopping in the shed and we used up paint from other projects. Of course it ended up not being enough, but I felt proud for saving SOME money and not sinking money into all new paint.
Love the coop! I wish we lived where we could raise some chickens. Oh well, I'll live vicariously through your adventures.

I love chickens! I tried having my own little flock a few years back. Found out that malamutes and chickens don't go well together. Some day....

I LOVE the idea of Oops Paint. I ALWAYS want to buy it when I see it, just to see what it would look like (and because it's such a bargain!).
I haven't commented about the rooster thing before because I am embarrassed about my embarrassing lack of knowledge, but now I am thinking we all have embarrassing gaps here and there and so I will just go ahead and ask: What is the...significance...of one being a rooster? Does that mean you would get chicks instead of eggs? I guess this must mean there are eggs even with no rooster, which is something I didn't know but will pretend I did because it seems a little embarrassing not to know that.

I guess I should clarify about the rooster--the main issue is the
cock-a-doodle-dooing. Roosters are illegal in lots of towns (even those that
allow hens). I'm not sure if they're legal here but my neighbor has one so
I'm not too worried (and the neighborhood is used to the crowing). Still,
they are loud. In addition, the eggs would more likely be fertile--hens will
lay without a rooster and of course those would be unfertilized. I would
rather have unfertilized but I guess it doesn't really matter. And I've
heard that roosters can be mean to hens but not sure if that's true or
rooster-dependent. So....hmm.....
