Actually, no kittens, but that's what Biscuit keeps saying since we started our mitten project yesterday. It started with a plan to bike ride to the farmer's market on a morning that was surprisingly cold. I was going to have the kid wear gloves but the fight to get each finger in the proper spot drives me crazy so I was wishing for mittens. At which point I remembered that I don't have to knit to make mittens.
We traced a hand.
Made some space around it and traced onto the softest fleece scrap ever.
Tried to sew it on Biscuit's sewing machine
but after three broken threads gave up and switched to my machine. At which point realized that the space provided around the fingers was too generous and the space at the wrist to measly and had to sew the finger part again. That's about right.
So the mittens were trimmed and (finally) we rode (veeerrrrry slooooowly) to the market.
Then I did a terrible thing (which was my plan from the start but apparently I forgot to tell the kid)
I found a felted sweater, cut out another set of mittens and covered the very soft, rather ugly fleece with a nice layer of hand stitched wool. Better for snowball making I figured (or getting pots out of the oven since they look like oven mitts).
Oh the woe. You can hear it from where you are I am sure. I RUINED her VERY SPECIAL loved for nearly three hours super awesome mittens. I was truly an evil human. I even had to bribe her to get her to wear these mittens for a photo.
And I had to make NEW, fleece only, mittens from more fleece I found in my bottomless pit of crafting supplies.
She really likes these mittens (and the hot chocolate with marshmallows).

She is WAY too cute!! LOVE the pics of her covering her face. So cute.
