Last weekend Mr. H and his best friend, D, took the kids on a backpacking trip. It was Biscuit's first trip so of course they (accidentally) planned a nice, long 4.6 mile hike to the camping spot.
Luckily, Biscuit (and her friends, ages 4 and 7) were total troopers and hiked the whole way plus day hikes for a whopping 16 miles of hiking over three days!
Apparently Biscuit replaced all those hiking calories with vast quantities of rehydrated, freeze dried lasagna. (note for future trips: kid eats as much as your average adult. pack accordingly)
I was a teeny bit sorry to miss this big adventure but there's something to be said for dad and kid time. And mom alone time. And Biscuit enjoyed relating all of her adventures to me when they got home. Most of the stories seemed to revolve around treats, numbers and types thereof. And then we went out to buy push up pops.
I am so proud of our little backpacker.
PS Mr. H tells me the boys filled their giant backpacks with stuffed animals so they aren't as loaded down as they appear ;)

Ohmygod, she looks like TEN (especially in that one solo pic)! bring on the girl scouts. :) Looks like a great time and I am soooo jealous of the two of them!

Good for her! I hope my kids are up for longer hikes now, as they're getting far too big to carry...
