The cute people backpack in:
Our campsite. We didn't even use the tent; we slept under the (shooting) stars.
Clearly somebody needed a nap much earlier in the day
Swimming and fishing in one of the many, many lakes.
Campfires allowed in the backcountry. So fun!
And, finally. A shot for my dad. Actually, this entire post was probably for my dad and for me when I get caught up on scrapbooking two years from now and wonder when exactly we took this awesome trip. And where the heck we went.
Final scrapbooking note to my future self: Biscuit was a great backpacker but only if she got to be line leader. Luckily the other kids (and adults) humored our little leader of the pack.

Oh wow looks like soo much fun!

Melissa, where did you go backpacking? I recently took the 9 year old on his first trip and it was a bit rough. I'm hoping to find a few places that are shorter and 5 year old friendly.

We went near Lassen in the Caribou Wilderness. Its near Chester (which is near Lake Almanor which is sort of a bit near Chico but not really). It was a really long drive from Sac 3+ hrs but it was a really easy, mostly flat 1.75 mile hike to a series of lakes. It would be mosquito hell in the spring but this late in summer it was lovely. Last time Biscuit went backpacking it was Point Reyes and the hike was a bit rough for the 4 year olds (about 3+ miles in and hilly) but thats another spot to consider.
Have fun!
