Today was the long awaited "soft launch" of the Smoothie Shop.
Back in February she wrote and tested several recipes and has been anxiously awaiting warm weather. 80 degrees today so it was hard to argue it was too cold to open.
She used her own money (and skills) to buy produce at the Farmers' Market then Trader Joes. We did the math to determine the cost per serving (about $2) so she set her price at $3 and she set up shop. Only glitch was a lack of cups but the neighbor sold her a stack at $0.01 per cup (a bargain!).
Our neighborhood is so great. Practically every neighbor came out and supported her with a purchase. And they were willing to wait (a long time--each smoothie was made to order and I had to wash the blender in between).
She also had her recipe books available for $1.
Yes we helped her quite a bit but this has really been her project and I'm so proud of her hard work. Go smoothista!
