Today we hosted the the now traditional triple birthday party for my dad, Mr. H and Oscar. Last year and the year before. Kind of amazing I've found three themes that work for babies, and guys in their 30's and 60's.
All of our family was able to come over which was just great. Look at everyone smiling at poor Oscar who got quite a case of stage fright at cake and candle time.
The decorations came together in about five minutes thanks to some paper roads my mom loaned me from her preschool teacher stash and about a zillions cars and trucks and things that go that we had lying about the house.
I had planned to make cupcake toppers from printed images of cars (and trucks) from the book but I ran out of time. Mrs. Grossman's stickers to the rescue. Thanks, mom. Totally adorable and took only a few minutes.
When we were talking about cakes and cake decorating a few weeks ago Oscar suggested we make "chocolate roads." Ask and ye shall receive, kid (they're chocolate/peanut butter ganache).
Such a delicious cake! Recipe here. I frosted it in reverse order for the cake (ganache is supposed to be on top). On the cupcakes I made a little stencil to stencil on ganache roads.
I got shirts printed for all three boys with the image from the invitation. As usual, I failed to get a decent photo of all three boys but more importantly we all had a good time and ate lots of cake and ice cream.
Happy birthday, boys! Thanks for coming over, everyone!
