A coffee table was our gift to my sister and her husband LAST Christmas. And we finally delivered. Along with matching end tables which were Christmas gifts for THIS year. My entire contribution to this effort was asking a neighbor for the giant slab of wood he had sitting beside his house. He gave it to me. It's from the cedar tree he cut down in his front yard.
Then Mr. H welded a sled to resaw the wood and made the tops and put in the butterfly keys and welded the bases etc etc. Oh, I did put on a coat of polyurethane. The wood is stained to match the style my sister and her husband favor. The heartwood and butterfly keys all took the stain so differently--it's a neat effect--but I must admit a fondness for the unfinished wood.
It was great spending New Year's Eve at my sister's house in San Francisco--a great city to ring in the new year. And a good chance to deliver their new furniture!
We love our coffee table and end tables!! We think you should start selling them....
