A family trip this good merits a return to the blog.
My parents generously planned a trip to Yosemite and invited us along. Hooray! We stayed in Curry Half Dome Village which was pretty great. Perfect for menacing shadow puppet dogs :)
We managed to do a good bit of hiking/wandering and some really awesome rock scrambling. Biscuit was able to show off some of what she learned on last year's school field trip with Nature Bridge. I was only a tiny bit nervous watching the kids scramble into and up the boulders of a giant rock slide.
Late the second day I suddenly remembered, Junior Ranger! How could I forget? Biscuit has earned a pile of them but Oscar never has. He was a bit hot and cold on the whole idea but we coaxed him and he completed the required activities. And then awesome big sister got over her distaste for the sort of dorky pledge and stood with her brother showing him the ropes.
And he seemed rather proud of himself after the fact ;)
In addition to watching Biscuit's confidence on the rocks and awesomeness as a big sister, the other great thing this trip was Oscar's reaction to the sheer scale of Yosemite. Several times glanced up and just gaped and pointed and said "whoa! look at that!" about the rock cliffs. They really are awe inspiring but he seemed surprised every time he noticed them. It was cute and funny.
Oh, and the waterfalls were amazing. Springtime in Yosemite; I recommend.
