I may have mentioned it here but several months ago we installed three new doors at our house. The sills on two of our doors were rotten and it was time. Then they remained untrimmed and unpainted for a quite a while until last month when Mr. H went on a spree of trimming, caulking, stuccoing and painting.
Would you like inspiration to freshen up your home? May I suggest painting your doors? Once you do that you notice the dirty trim. Then the grungy walls. Then the unfinished crown molding and the unpatched hole in the wall from where you hit a chair into it during the holiday party three years ago and and and. And then you end up repainting your hallway.
The hallway had been pale yellow and decorated with collections of photos that had gotten a bit haphazard over the years of adding and subtracting. We painted it cream colored. I was a bit skeptical about the color until I finally hung stuff on the walls on Sunday and now I like it!
I printed out 8x10s of some of our favorite images from our epic summer vacations.
I usually reuse frames from the collection I keep under Oscar's bed but in redoing the hallway I decided I was going to splurge on matching frames. I wanted something really clean looking so was thinking of a thin metallic (or even wood) frame with a big, white mat. No luck at all at Michaels. I found a good option at Aaron Brothers for $20 each. Then I realized, duh!, Ikea.
The Stromby's were perfect and only $9.99 for the size above and a few dollars more for the larger sizes. I got 7 frames, two kitchen scrub brushes (that Oscar is now obsessed with carrying everywhere "ORANGE! BOUSH! BOO! BOUSH!", and some other small thing that I've already forgotten for less than $100. Score.
The frames didn't have mats and Ikea frames are odd sizes (dang metric system) but it worked out perfect. I just flipped over the paper that said "STROMBY," stuck my pictures to the white side, put it back in the frame and boom! I didn't even bother to measure.
