And can I take a moment and recommend a Saturday birthday? Much nicer than a birthday on a random Tuesday which would be filled up by work and school and trying to get dinner on the table before bathtime.
With a Saturday birthday you can, for example, receive breakfast in bed then drive to your parents' house for a family brunch followed by lounging while the grandparents play with the kids and then bottling the beer that was technically your dad's Christmas present. Then maybe someone will buy pizza and you won't have to think about dinner. You know, for example.
It was a really nice day.
The one thing I didn't get done Saturday was to post my resolutions for the year. A perfect thing about a February 1 birthday is that it's one month after everyone else is posting resolutions so it allows time for mulling and deciding on some goals for the year.
Although when I thought about it, the ideas I jotted down (apparently on January 9) seem to be sticking. I can't think of any better resolutions so there you have it for year 38:
- Keep up with running
- Finish the book
- Take the blog "more seriously" (although I'm still trying to figure out what that means, exactly)
A nice short list. Not impossible goals but ones that will keep me on track.
The other thing keeping me on track is my weekly meeting of the "Passion Posse." The three of us ladies in the posse try to have coffee on Friday mornings and now each Friday we set a goal for the week and check in on our goals from the previous week. Sort of a little accountability group. This week my goal was to finalize my goals for the year. Done! I get an X in our little tracking book :)
In related news, 38 is sounding really old right now. With 37 I could rationalize I was in my "mid" thirties. With 38 it's hard to deny I'm surprisingly close to 40. Although really, what's the big deal with 40? Maybe that adage "age is just a number" really is true. I definitely feel 32 :)
Happy Year of the Horse. Happy shortest-month-of-the-year. Happy Monday to ya.
