De-lurking to say that it is a grain bin. You use the auger to move shelled corn from a wagon into the bin for drying and storage. Oh, how I love it when my farm girl roots come in handy! Lovely photos....what a strange and fun place to visit!

Thanks, Sara! I was expecting my farm-raised dad to answer but you beat him
to it. Grain makes a lot more sense than water!

Grain bin -- for either corn or soybeans. They aren't harvested until they are below 15-18% (water level left in them) so that they won't rot in the bin during storage.
