Inspired by Ali's "I want to remember" posts....
I want to remember what a wonderful big sister Biscuit already is:
How she calles her brother "Little Buddy"
When he's crying how she sings him a desperate rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (which is actually super annoying but it is done with love)
How she is always happy to go get him clothes or hand me a diaper wipe or generally help out without complaint
How she narrated our car ride for him... "Oscar, can you see out the window? We're going by cars and trees and branches and houses and...."
How when his crying interruped her project she shrugged resignedly and said, "well, that's what babies do, right?" but didn't complain at all.
How her main complaint is that she doesn't get to hold him enough (especially since she's fighting a cold)
I want to remember how grown up Biscuit is all of the sudden:
How she's working on saving $11 to buy (of all things) some plastic princess shoes and a pretend cell phone at Target. Allowance only gets her so far so she washed windows today. 10 cents per window pane. She made $2.40.
How she's already done with kindergarten!
How she's working so hard on learning new skills and trying new things.
- Listening and trying hard at swim team practice getting better and better and completely okay with not being one of the fastest (if she even really notices).
- Riding in her first kids' mountain bike race/ride despite some trepidation and then being so excited about her finishers medal she wore it to school the next day. She's riding again tomorrow night.
- Learning to sew! Making her first quilt! For her brother!
I want to remember Oscar at two and a half weeks old:
How he looks: hangnails are finally going away, peeling feet and arms, perfect little face, soft brown hair, indeterminate gray/brown/dark eyes, very kissable cheeks
How he wakes up and cannot wait even a nanosecond to eat. If the milk isn't right there he crys indignently until it is.
How he only wants to sleep on someone or on his way somewhere but he's so cuddly that's perfectly fine (for now).
How he seems to like going outside and especially the porch swing when he's feeling fussy.
How he smiles. Often in his sleep but maybe in response to us? Sometimes? We like to think so.
How he spit up on his aunt three times in a row getting her dress and both her shoes. And how hard we laughed because we warned her....
How portable he still is. Getting dragged to swim team. Hanging out in the construction zone. He rolls with it.
I want to remember this perfect summer:
As Mr. H keeps saying this is the best summer ever. All of us are off work/school together.
How busy we've been with newborn care (me), construction (Mr. H), activities (Biscuit), sleeping (Oscar).
How cool it is to see the "shed" getting bigger and bigger (with huge thanks to Mr. H's dad).
How many fun visits we've had from family and friends all wanting to meet Oscar (and providing extra arms for holding so we can get stuff done).
How the weather has been unseasonably cool but beautiful. Perfect for outdoor work.
How the garden looks really good (for now) and how the tomato crop looks amazing.
These are good days, aren't they? I think this is going to be the best summer ever, too.
