A few weeks ago, my friend Lauren taught a class at my friend Shelley's business. (I have very creative friends). To be honest, I signed up to support them and because I thought I'd make a little plaque for my niece. It turned out to be SO FUN and I really got into it. I told Lauren it was way more fun than I expected. I meant it as a compliment. I think she was slightly offended. Oops!
But it was so fun I had to sign up for the next class offering, Valentine card screen printing. I can't wait!
I tried super hard to convince Biscuit to draw me a design so she could screen print her Valentines but no go. She had a vision. Like always. I'll have to share the results. Hopefully Oscar will be more amenable to my plan....
Funny little aside. Lauren is truly a fine artist while I am an enthusiastic dabbler. Years ago I took Lauren to the UC Davis Craft Center (where I used to volunteer and teach sewing) and taught I her a few teeny things about slab building with ceramics that had I learned in a ceramics class. She went on to get her own kiln, refine her talent and open a shop! Lauren and I also spent one afternoon at the Craft Center practicing screen printing after I took a class. Again, off she went and is now teaching and has her own supplies. Perhaps my role in life is to introduce people to art techniques and then get out of the way. :) Oh, and to loop back years later when they've gone pro and take a class from them.
Nice did you make me one? A ceramic bike spoon holder.
